Our origins

Our origins: 2022

Mon Matcha was born from a simple but ambitious promise: to offer the best matcha at the best price. At the time, only a handful of insiders in the West knew about the virtues of this ancient green powder. The market was small, and matcha remained in the shadow of the big wellness trends.

Fair price

Our pricing philosophy

No flash sales or flashy campaigns. Why? Because those who can afford big discounts were already too expensive. We prefer a fair price, all year round, with no pressure and no gimmicks.

The one and only way to get discounts is to join the loyalty programme.

Quality

Transparency and quality

We offer the 3 best grades available on the Japanese market, without the waffle, in the category of:

Ceremonial

What's more, it's organic. This table explains the categories and sub-categories available on the market as a whole.

Understanding the grades

The grades, from highest to lowest quality

  1. Ceremonial
  2. Green tea or conventional
  3. Culinary

Each grade has its own sub-grades

  • Ceremonial: A-B-C → WHAT WE SELL
  • Green tea: A-B-C-SC-SB
  • Culinary: A-B-C

As you will have gathered, the further down you go, the lower the quality.

The matcha revolution

The tide has turned. Driven by social media, matcha has become much more than a tea: it's a lifestyle. From creative recipes to wellness rituals and moments of calm, this thousand-year-old infusion is now a symbol of quality, mindfulness and a return to the essentials.

Scarcity

The other side of demand

Exceptional matcha comes from a limited area of carefully cultivated Japanese land. But this rare quality cannot keep up with relentlessly rising demand. The result? Prices that are rising slowly but surely, a sign of the product's real value.

The market in figures

Spectacular global growth

Matcha is on every continent, and the figures speak for themselves:

  • Global market estimated at USD 4.09 billion in 2024, forecast to reach USD 6.67 billion by 2033
  • 202% growth in matcha drinks in Europe in 2023
  • Ready-to-drink beverages jumped by 20%
  • Matcha snacks and pastries are growing by 15% a year
  • 55% of revenue in 2024 came from organic products
  • 30% of consumers look for sustainable, ethical matcha

Ichibancha

A precious harvest, in tune with the seasons

Matcha is harvested only once a year, during the picking known as Ichibancha, which takes place between late April and early May. This is when the carefully shaded leaves offer their full richness in flavour and benefits.

Because there is only one harvest and it depends entirely on nature's rhythm, some products may occasionally be temporarily unavailable.
We do everything we can to keep them in stock, but there may be short gaps while the new harvest is being prepared.
