Why matcha prices are rising: a growing passion and a reality worth understanding

In 2022, Mon Matcha was born with a simple but ambitious promise: to offer the best matcha at the best price. At the time, only a few well-informed connoisseurs in the West understood its virtues. Demand was modest, and matcha was still in the shadow of the wellness trends.

But everything has changed. A genuine, massive craze has taken off on social media: recipes, health routines, moments of calm… Matcha has become much more than a tea; it has become a symbol of mindfulness and quality.

And many of you have joined us on this adventure. Your enthusiasm touches us every day.

Spectacular global growth

To better understand this trend, here are some telling figures:

  • The global matcha market was estimated at USD 4.09 billion in 2024 and is expected to reach USD 6.67 billion by 2033, with average annual growth of 5.6%.

  • In Europe, matcha

drinks recorded 202% growth in 2023.

  • ? The ready-to-drink matcha segment saw a 20% increase over the past year.

  • Matcha is making its way into snacks and pastries, with annual growth of 15 % in this sector.

  • In 2024, 55% of global revenue from ready-to-drink matcha came from organic products.

  • Nearly 30% of consumers say they actively look for matcha products from sustainable, ethical practices.

Demand that outstrips supply

As is often the case, popular enthusiasm hides a more complex reality. Japan produces exceptional matcha in limited farming areas, cultivated with care and respect. But this land cannot be multiplied indefinitely, and certainly not at the pace at which global demand is growing.

The result: prices are rising slowly but surely.

Our choices, your expectations

Faced with this reality, there were several options:

  • Lower the quality to keep prices the same?

  • Reduce sizes or quantities without changing the price (shrinkflation)

  • Or raise prices slightly while maintaining quality and portion sizes

We chose the third option. Because we know that you are discerning customers, who care about meaning, taste and ethics.

And despite this increase, Mon Matcha remains true to its original promise: excellent products at an unbeatable price.

A measured, deliberate and explained increase

We have held back inflation until now. But today we need to adjust our prices. This change takes effect from 1 November 2025.

  • Ceremonial grade A remains unchanged.

  • Ceremonial grade B goes up to CHF 40 for 100 grams and CHF 24 for 50 grams.

  • Ceremonial grade C goes up to CHF 35 for 100 grams and CHF 21 for 50 grams.

Unlike others, you won't see discounts or "flash" campaigns from us.

Why? Because in our view, those who can afford massive discounts were already too expensive.

We prefer a fair price, all year round, with no pressure and no gimmicks.

Thank you for being part of this adventure. If you have any questions or would like to talk about it, we're here to listen.
